Feeling safe in your body does not mean being calm all the time. It means having enough inner stability to notice what is happening without immediately becoming overwhelmed, shut down or disconnected.
After prolonged stress or difficult experiences, the body may remain prepared for danger even when the present moment is relatively safe. You might notice tension, shallow breathing, restlessness, numbness, difficulty sleeping or a strong need to stay in control.
These responses are not personal failures. They are protective strategies. The body has learned to anticipate what might happen next.
